The Money Bits: Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Honda Amaze

Let’s begin with the carmaker with the largest market share in the Indian automotive market. As of August 2022, the current market share held by Maruti Suzuki is nearly 39.17%. However, that’s a drastic decline since their market share was roughly around 45% a few months ago. Nevertheless, they still account for the largest share of the market. So, besides that, the Suzuki Swift Dzire on-road price in Delhi starts at Rs 7 lakh for the base model, LXI MT. And it goes all the way up to Rs 10.21 lakh for the top model, the ZXI Plus AGS.

On the other hand, the on-road price in Delhi of the Honda Amaze starts at Rs 7.55 lakh for the base model, E MT 1.2 Petrol, and it goes up to Rs 13.62 lakh for the top model, VX CVT 1.5 Diesel.

These price figures show that the Honda Amaze’s on-road prices are slightly on the higher side. But you get what you pay for, such as comfort and entertainment features and a premium interior and exterior design. However, the only thing that the Dzire gets an edge on is that it gets a factory-fitted CNG kit as an option. The CNG variant of the Dzire is known for returning good mileage.

It is also worth mentioning that customers should feel safe before buying, and this is where the Honda Amaze comes into the picture. The Honda Amaze holds a whopping four-star safety rating in the crash test awarded by the NCAP. However, the Suzuki Dzire’s safety rating is below satisfactory.

The Powertrain Battle: Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Honda Amaze

Let’s begin with the vehicle that also gets a diesel engine, and that car is the Honda Amaze. The Honda Amaze engine options include a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 110Nm of torque. Then another is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated diesel engine that produces 98bhp and 200Nm of torque. As for the Honda Amaze’s transmission options, they include a standard five-speed manual transmission and an optional CVT unit.

On the contrary, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has a 1.2-litre K12 DualJet petrol engine, which can generate 88.5bhp and 113Nm of torque. But in the CNG variant of the Dzire, the power figures take a trough at 76.4bhp and 98.5Nm of torque.

Moreover, as for transmissions, they are available in a five-speed manual transmission as well as an AMT unit. It should also be noted that none of the variants of the Dzire CNG has an automatic transmission.

As for fuel efficiency in these two cars, the Honda Amaze’s mileage ranges between 18.3kmpl and 24.7kmpl, as per ARAI.

On the flip side, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire’s mileage ranges from 23.26kmpl to 31.12km/kg.

On the safety front, both cars have dual airbags, but the thing that makes their safety rating poles apart is the build quality. As mentioned earlier, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire’s safety rating is only two stars, and the Honda Amaze has a four-star rating. Again, both of these sub-compact sedans are popular in the country. The old design of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, badged as the ‘Tour S’, is popular among fleet operators since it is less expensive and comes with an optional CNG. But, that doesn’t mean it is not popular among private buyers.

In addition, the new design of the Dzire also gets an optional CNG kit, but it is not as popular as the old design Dzire as it is expensive. The Amaze also feels spacious and premium on the inside. On top of that, the Honda Amaze’s exterior has an elevated sense of design since it has sharp cuts and creases, chrome garnishes, and full-LED lights. The Amaze also returns good mileage.
